4th and just a little over 10 yds. Maybe about 4 and 10 plus 6 inches. The coach looks accross the field and sees that the box is just short of the the stake. I over heard the play call. QB sneak was the call. They gain about 2 yards. Coach is excited and players are too because this is going to be the game winning drive. Being obviously short, I signal first down for the other team. Coach is in shock "How did we not get the first, we only needed a few inches. I want a measurement" I replied "Coach, the first down stake is still 8 yards away." Boy did he feel dumb after taking a better look.
