Free Kick

NFHS Can a punt be used as a free kick following a fair catch??

No, a punt can only be used for a free kick following a safety.

Even if allowed, why would you ever want to? YOu can always punt on 1st down from a snap after the fair catch if you really want to give the ball back.

Plus the threat of onside recovery, minus the ability to hit the sidelines.

In the hopes a punt goes over the crossbar and between the uprights for three points. If that were legal, I'm sure we'd see it more often.

Even at the times when it was legal, it didn't confer a score.
