Michigan vs Illinois Player Losing Control of Ball (Video)

2nd half 7:37 ESPN..Mich @ Illini.

Dribbler from Mich loses control of dribble and catches ball in air and shoots.

If his feet would have returned to the ground with ball..travel?

If he lost control, he could catch the ball, land, and do anything except dribble again.

Just cause it's "not controversial" doesn't mean people can't learn from it.

Why would it be a travel to catch the ball in midair and land?

What do you think a jump stop is? Do you call a travel is a dribbler gathers the ball with both feet off the ground then lands on one foot and jumps for a shot?

No on the above..My focus was on the fact that the dribble was his first action and then lose control of it and it goes in the air and he jumps to catch it..if he returns to the floor instead of releasing the shot...what are his restrictions.

Video request was not to question the accuracy of the call but as a teaching point. (That question was brought up by another forum member)

If he dribbled the ball, that means the next time he gathers the ball he will be allowed to establish a pivot foot.

Nothing to see here. Legal play. Ball was not caught until the time of the shot.

This isn't the play you're looking for. You can go about your business. Move along.

Looks to be an illegal dribble to me. The player touched the ball a second time during a dribble before it was permitted to contact the floor.

This wasn't a fumble because the ball didn't slip from the player's grasp. Note that for a fumble to occur a player must end his dribble. When the ball accidentally gets away from a dribbler without him first ending it, the result is an interrupted dribble.

Might be, but I'm not sure enough from either angle that he actually touched the dribble on its way up. It looks like he may have, but I can't tell for sure.

If I can't say with confidence that he hit it twice, then I'm not making the call.
