NIT to play under experimental rules

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask...estricted-area

Quote:
INDIANAPOLIS -- Teams relegated to the NIT this season will have to play under experimental rules, including a 30-second shot clock and a 4-foot restricted area under the basket.

The NCAA says it is paring 5 seconds off the shot clock to see how it impacts pace and scoring totals. The arc is moving out a foot to examine how it changes the number of collisions under the basket by expanding the area in which charges usually cannot be drawn.

Coaches whose teams play in the tournament will be surveyed about their experience, and the men's basketball rules committee will look at all the data to consider future rules changes.

So they're waiting until the post-season to experiment with things like that? The shot clock might not make that big a difference, just shoot sooner, but I think the arc could potentially have a huge impact. Interesting...

A cynic would say it is another way of saying the NIT* just doesn't matter.

And the "soccer-azation" of America continues...."Teams relegated to the NIT..."?

I could've lived with: banished, dispatched, exiled, etc.
