TAMU @ LSU Block/Charge? (Video)

Could I throw out a request for a clip of the PC foul against LSU with 41.8 left in the 2nd half, please?

I have a charge. I think he got in the path with both feet down and stopped moving forward just before the shooter left the floor.

Charge. Very close, would have been a block under last years rules.

I have defender stoll moving forward. In NCAA-M's mechanics this should be the Lead's call.

Oh? Please elaborate. I remember last year they said, "when the shooter begins his upward motion." Did they go back to the original "feet left the floor" this year? If so, why the sudden reversal?

Yes they did change the rule back to the way it was before.

The defender appears to be creeping up as the shooter goes airborne. I would probably default to a charge, but this is a block IMO.

Peace

super close, but it appears the defender is still moving and not set so a block. Well I know Jay Bilas would call it a block so that's good enough for me!

Sounds like "coach talk" to me.

Things Officials Should Probably Not Be Saying In A Game

“He wasn’t set”, is often an official’s answer to a coach who is questioning a blocking foul on his player. This implies that a defensive player must be set, and can’t move, to take a charge, while, in reality, the rules say otherwise. A defensive player does not have to remain stationary to take a charge. A defender may turn away or duck to absorb contact, provided he, or she, has already established legal guarding position, which is both feet on the playing court and facing the opponent. The defender can always move backwards, or sideways, to maintain a legal guarding position, and may even have one, or both feet, off the floor when contact occurs. That player may legally rise vertically. However, if the defender is moving forward, then the contact is caused by the defender, which, in this case, is a blocking foul.

I considered that, and it is often me that takes that position on these types of plays....and while I felt he stopped, it was splitting hairs and could have gone your way on an odd numbered day.
