Froze Twice part 2

I took everyone's advice from my earlier thread of "Frozen Twice". I had a really good game last night and made proper calls and had very little issues with the coaches. My only problem last night was my partner. He called two very unnecessary T's and he told me he almost called a third. Also, when he called a foul his arm was at a less than 45 degree angle and I thought he was calling an offensive foul all night long. Other than that It was a good game and both teams played well.

Great!

What did you feel was unnecessary about the Ts?

Both kids who received T's never said anything verbally they just put their arms out to the side. It wasn't a gesture of disrespect it was more of a "was the foul on me?" gesture.

See, the next game makes everything better.

HTBT on the Ts...

As for the arm thing... there's one guy in my association who does the same thing; in his case, because of an old injury that leaves him unable to fully extend his arm over his head. Something similar could possibly be at work here.

Don't forget to find one thing to improve upon in your next game.

Has anyone thought about letting him raise his left hand for fouls? It seems that would be better than having his right arm only part of the way up.

Excellent. Keep getting back on the horse. It is the only way to put yesterday's game behind you. You will have additional games where you will miss a call, get berated by a coach and fret for days -- until you get back out there and learn from that situation.

Suggestion: don't worry about your partner's calls. Work on the things that you can control. Work on your mechanics in a mirror -- corny, but it really helps. Work on consistent counts. Work on your hustle, demeanor and communication (verbal and non-verbal). Let your partners want to emulate you instead of you not wanting to be "like them." Work on your rule book knowledge so that when some "once a season" situation occurs, you know exactly what to do.

Not my place to suggest it.

Besides, that's one of my weak points as well... no matter how hard I try, I can seem to get myself to ever raise my left arm to signal a foul or violation.

What do you mean "letting him?" There's no real requirement on which hand to use -- although some suggest always using the "outside" hand.

I'm a lefty...for fouls it's always my left hand that goes up. I think violations too. For three pointers, I've trained myself to use the outside hand.

There's a federal law prohibiting the use of the left hand to call fouls when one is wearing a short sleeved shirt. It's called "The Right To Bare Right Arms".

Me too. I may be left handed, but I'm always right.
