You can't go back to the 3rd quarter now after playing six seconds of the 4th quarter! So the 1-1 in this specific case would be part of the 4th quarter.

I disagree that either play would be complicated. If we apply 2-10 along with some common sense, we correct the errors and put the ball back into play with ease.

When we over think something like this, it then becomes complicated.

So how do you deal with the rule requiring an intermission between quarters?

I'll use the common sense side of the argument, correct the error and get the game moving as intended rather than worrying that I ignored a rule about having an intermission "between quarters".

And that's my point. It's more complicated than you wish to admit. There are some mental gymnastics required because several of the rules cannot nicely mesh with the situation presented. So as I wrote back in my first post in this thread, "There are meritorious arguments both ways without a clear answer."

I respect your opinion and that you cited a case play to support it. I even happen to agree with how you and that case play advocate handling the situation presented in the OP. I just don't agree with your oversimplification of the scenario under the rationale of "I'm not going to worry about the details that don't fit." That may be practical, but isn't helpful to the intellectual exercises regarding the rules that we strive for on this forum.
