Something tells me that this was a directive in the NBA. We would call anything we are instructed to call at that level if we were working those games.

Yep, these guys aren't going to just start dropping Ts without directives to back them up.

Apparently the announcer received the same briefing, because he called it almost as quickly as the ref did.

This situation came up in class. Both vids we have an unsporting T. Question was T only occurs during dead ball. One situation was a throw in. That's at least one guy was saying. In HS, it would be 2 shots ball at division line opposite table.
10.3.Art.6 (c) Baiting/Taunting.

CONTACT Ts occur only during a dead ball but NON contact Ts can occur during a live ball.

Swearing staring down after a dunk (and team has ball for throw in of course). These are other examples of live ball technical non contact fouls.

The technical foul was upheld by the NBA in case anyone was wondering.
