Your Call?

A1 holding the basketball at the 28 for line. B1 has a hand on A1's hip. A1 grabs B1's wrist, pushes it aside, and begins a drive to the basket. What do you have?

If the contact did nothing to prevent A1 from moving, then I got nothing.

Peace

One thing I'm NOT calling is a foul on A1. IF I'm going to let B1 place their hand on A1's hip and keep it there I'm sure not going to penalize A1 for knocking it away.

I'm probably going to get the hand check.

Nothing, and if the defender says something, I'm telling him to get his hands off.

If it holds, directs or pushes the ball handler in a certain way, I totally agree with you. But if it is just touching the ball handler, I have a hard time going there. This is really something you have to see to know if any of those things apply.

Peace

I Found This On My Hard Drive ...

Any illegal use of hands, arms or body, offense or defense, that slows, prevents, impedes the progress, or
displaces an opposing player, due to the contact, is a foul and must be called. When a player places both
hands on a ball-handler, it is a foul. When a player continuously places a hand on the ball handler, it is a foul.
When a player continuously jabs a hand or forearm on a ball-handler, it is a foul. When a player jabs a hand,
or forearm, on an opponent to control his or her movement or gain an advantage, it is a foul. If the dribbler’s
rhythm, speed, balance, or quickness are affected, we should have a hand-checking foul. Tactics using the
hands, arms or body that permit any player, offense or defense, to control (hold, impede, push, divert, slow
or prevent) the movement of an opposing player is a foul.

If that's what's expected then call it that way. It is what I would do in some of my games; it's not what I would do in others.

I agree, but our direction is to call this if the hand is left there for anything longer than the "hot stove." Probably because it's harder to tell if this touch is having a hindering effect on the dribbler than other contact.

OTOH, if he just barely gets it up there and A1 slaps it away, I might just all a PC. I might also just call nothing.
