Confused In Connecticut ???

We're getting a lot of confusion here in 100% IAABO, 99% Two Man, Connecticut on out of bounds plays in the frontcourt above the free throw line extended on the lead's side. IAABO is clamping down on this being the trail's responsibility. It's in everyone's pregame, but it's still causing confusion. Some double whistles. Some late whistles after pregnant pauses. Easy for the trail to get the skip pass that goes out of bounds, but almost impossible to get the caught skip pass where the catcher is just barely standing on the sideline, especially when that player is standing right in front of a coach.

We're never going back to the old coverage where the lead has the entire sideline. I plan on officiating several more years. Help?

Too bad. Anything else is simply overthinking.

Thankfully, we have the flexibility to call this however we want to and as the lead, I always have the primary whistle on my sideline. I may need to get help in certain scenarios, but I'm always having the whistle and the stop-clock signal.

IABBO can clamp down all they want but the fact is that in a two man crew lead is in a better position multiple times during every game to make calls on that line.

Personally I want to get it right and if the lead has it while I'm in trail I want him blowing the whistle. Most of the officials I work with feel the same way and it's a pretty standard item for discussion in pregame.

Exactly...there is NO WAY a trail can see the sideline well enough to see if a player stepped on it or not.

What they can see is who knocked it out when it is clearly OOB, but that is no reason to have them also call the line.

The downside to the NFHS way is that it pulls both sets of eyes to that area of the court with the lead watching the line and the trail watching the trap. That leaves 7 other players not well covered.

So, it is a matter of which thing you want to give up in the compromise. I guess that IAABO is OK with missed OOB calls more so than missed fouls away from the ball.
