No, but the farther and farther these guys are allowed out on court this (or some version thereof) is bound to happen. Certainly not condoning assistant coach's action if he called for this, just saying it isnt hard to see some player contacting a coach the way some of them apparently want to relive their oncourt days!

Maybe they didn't see it -- a player running more-or-less by himself (an assumption, I know) isn't going to get much notice from me.

Oh, wait -- maybe you meant T the coach who was on the floor. I might agree with that.

Seems like the play was in transition heading away from that bench. At least that's what I can tell from the video of a video camera screen.

I wouldn't be surprised if none of the men in stripes saw it. Though the fact that it apparently happened twice is a bit concerning.

Hm. Basketball seems to need a sideline interference rule.

Hey Coach: Stay in that Box

AMHERST, Mass. — An assistant basketball coach at a Massachusetts high school has been fired for telling one of his players to 'take out' another team's coach.
Eric Wheeler was fired Thursday by Amherst Regional High School following an investigation into Monday's incident in which an Amherst player is seen on video pushing South Hadley High coach Jeff Guiel to the ground from behind. Gueil was out of bounds.
School officials say Wheeler was apparently frustrated because game officials had not penalized Gueil for stepping out of the coaching box and thought contact with a player would result in a technical foul.
Amherst officials determined that head coach Jim Matuszko had no knowledge of the situation. The 16-year-old player also faces punishment.
Gueil, an attorney, says he is "exploring all the options."

That an adult is telling a student athlete to take down an opposing coach is repulsive. Apparently the school isn't doing a great job of teaching kids the difference between right and wrong. My children all played sports and I'm positive that if they were told to do something like this they would not have done so.

Having said that, I don't want to hear another word from a coach when I remind him/her to stay in the coaching box nor do I want any partner (and this has happened) asking me why I'm bothering with enforcing that particular rule.

From the school, and of course they were sure to get a dig in at the game officials.

Coach Wheeler was apparently frustrated by the game officials’ unwillingness to penalize the South Hadley coach for being out of the coaching box and believed that if a player made contact with the coach a technical foul would be assessed.
