Several years ago, I tore my ACL and MCL along with a lot of other things in my knee. I had surgery, they didn't touch the MCL. According to my doctor, the MCL gets a plentiful blood supply with the necessary elements to heal while the ACL gets little to no blood flow and will not heal on its own. The doctor's opinion was that the MCL would actually heal faster and better naturally than with surgery.

That has been almost 10 years so things certainly may have changed, but that is my experience.
