Officials uniforms

I always remember in the 1980's umpires once in a while would umpire an MLB game in street clothes because the airlines would lose their luggage, I was wondering how come that never happened in a college basketball game since they officiate six out of seven days, all in different, out of the way locations in the middle of nowhere.

ALWAYS travel w/ your officiating uniform in your carry-on luggage. btw, if you "lose" your carry on luggage, you probably have bigger problems to deal with....

I have heard in recent years, that MLB has duplicates of umpires uniforms in each MLB park so that they do not umpire in street clothes.

Whenever I travel with Mark, Jr., to watch him officiate I always take my officiating bag with me just in case his partner does not show. Last January I went with him for a BJV game he was officiating but I did NOT take my bag with me. Sure enough, his partner did not show. Fortunately, Mark had packed a second shirt and whistle, and the home AD found me a pair of low-cut sneakers that fit me. I wore the khaki slacks that I wore to the game and officiated the game with Mark.

I was happy to help out my partner this week prior to our Boys JV assignment. He was having a really bad day and didn't have his gear bag in the car he used to travel to the game.

Fortunately he had black rubber soled shoes on that day with very dark slacks. We were about the same size so he went with my spare shirt and whistle. If we had not been about the same size he would have been officiating in his dress shirt. I'm guessing he would have taken off the tie.
