Lack of change of possession arrow on jump ball call.

In one of those waste of time November tournament games in Las Vegas three weeks ago between Iowa State and Cincinnati a situation developed that I never saw before. A jump ball was called, the possession arrow stayed with Cincinnati, no big deal. On the throw in, an away from the play foul occurred before the throw in. Mark Whitehead had a long conversation with the scorers table, no one thought any of it. A minute later, on the other side of the floor, another jump ball was called. After about a five minute conversation, the ball remained with Cincy, John Higgins talked to the broadcast team, Doug Gottlieb and Steve Lappas, and didn't understand the explanation. After looking at it on TiVo for eight times, I figured out after a jump ball, on a throw in, if a foul occurs before the throw in, the possession arrow doesn't change on a throw in post jump ball like it normally occurs.

The possession arrow only changes after the throw-in legally ends or the throw-in team violates. Because there was a foul, the arrow does not change.

FIFY. And, the foul can be on either team.

Good job by the table to not change the arrow as soon as the throw-in started (or sooner), as often happens. Good job by the officials to be sure it didn't change on the foul call.
