In spite of this interp, I agree with maven. I truly don't see why B1 wouldn't be considered a defender in this situation, which means that there's an exception and no violation has occurred, throw-in or not.

The interpretation makes no sense to me. Quite frankly, to me, it's an idiotic interpretation, especially in light of adding team control to the throw-in. To everyone who knows the game of basketball, the throw-in team is the offense and the other team is the defense. I'd also venture a guess that this play gets passed on more than it would get called.

I don't agree with him not calling a violation on this, but given that the NFHS has made such a huge mess out of player control, team control, and the backcourt violation rule in the past two seasons, it is understandable. It is even likely that he could support his decision with the text of the current rules book and I'm sure that the coaches and players are unclear as to what the decision should be.

I don't blame the official on the court for this situation. I blame the rules book editor of the nfhs.
Poor job with the text and the lack of clarity it causes for how to call such plays.

Btw, I've edited my post in an attempt to make my point directed more generally rather than to either of these specific individuals. I would appreciate it if you would do the same with your quotation of my post.
