I Told You That It Was A Long Story ...

Long story. Basketball officials in Connecticut (100% IAABO) don't being to the NFHS. I've been able to join the NFHS in the past by paying my NFHS dues to my interscholastic athletic state governing body and pretending (with my governing body's permission) to be a volleyball official (which I'm not) which got me access to NFHS online rulebooks, casebooks, etc. When the NFHS and Arbiter got together I got shut out of their online library because I'm not on the Arbiter list for volleyball (because I'm not a volleyball official). The NFHS does not recognize Connecticut Arbiter basketball lists because no basketball officials in Connecticut are NFHS members.

In a few weeks I'll be on the Forum asking for PDF NFHS rulebooks, and casebooks. I hope that I can get access to these PDF files because I'm not a very good typist (keyboarder). A few Forum members have helped me out in the past, I hope that they can help me about again, but I am concerned that the NFHS may have decided not to publish PDF files. By the way. I did send in a check for my NFHS dues back in August, so I'm not looking for something for nothing.

There is no website that I know of that has been given copyright privileges to publish any of the NFHS books. They used to be available online to any NFHS member, but announced last year that they were ending the practice due to illegitimate distribution of downloaded books. To my knowledge (which, along with 5.00, will get you into a middle school girls basketball game) they are not available online. If you find somewhere that they are, it seems to me that it would be copyright infringement.
Others may correct me on this.
Best to just keep your books with you where ever you go--work, home, fishing, deer stand, bed--everywhere.

You do, and you're gonna get a visit by some MIB personnel in black suits who are gonna come in and lay all that Jack Webb on ya'. They'll then wipe your newly informed memory clean with a neuralizer.
Next thing you know, you're gonna be tearing the tags off your pillows and mattresses.

No worries, Billy. If I had my books with me, I would have posted the rule myself. I honestly thought you would (not knowing about your recent separation anxiety).

My crack about hope was just that, a crack.

I thought that the NFHS was going to make them available on some type of "app"? Bad news for me because I don't own a smartphone, plus there's always the Connecticut-Basketball-Arbiter-IAABO-NFHS problem to deal with.

There was an app last year to get the NFHS rule book and case book on a smart phone for $6. I just checked...and this year's book is not yet available. But, the volleyball rules are available (as are football, soccer and field hockey.) You do not need to be a NFHS member to buy them.

Do you have to have a smartphone, or can you get the books on a personal computer? I don't have a smartphone, just a stupidphone. Now where did I put my buggy whip?

I have to ask, and it seems impossible when i think it through, but were score keepers dumber back in the day? Or maybe more distracted.

You need a smartphone. Android only. The app is not available for iPhones or iPads -- yet. It was developed by ArbiterSports for the NFHS.

Details are in this NFHS press release.
