A player could try and get his number changed to that...but Front Office and League Office would have to approve it, and I highly doubt they would.

Plus, I'm guessing officials would just start reporting the name rather than the number.

Actually had to do that tonight in a spring league game. White didn't have numbers on the white side of their reversible jerseys. Had to ask for their last names.
