Patch on chest

What is the patch the chest of the referee shirt that some D1 officials are wearing this year? Looks like a basketball...

Wrong. It's an orange beach ball.

Sorry Huntin' Ref. I couldn't resist. I know more about ancient Greek philosophy than I do about NCAA officiating. Wait a few minutes and one of the "bog boys" will be moseying by to give you a real answer.

Found it. Thanks. Wonder if they are sublimated shirts from Cliff Keen as it doesn't appear to be a sewn on patch on my tv, but they haven't zoomed in at all.

Speaking of which, has anyone used one this season?

I did not realize they were offering them for basketball. What do they print on them?

About a week ago I saw one of them coming off the shirt of one of the officials late in a game. So it appears they are is some kind of sticky type or sewn on the shirt than being sublimated on the shirt.

Peace

There's a feature article in this month's Referee on Cliff Keen and the technology behind the sublimation process.

In GHSA, Certified officials used to wear a big, red, "Certified" patch on our chests. Nothing but a bullseye for coaches to key on, especially when working with partners who did not have the qualifications to wear the patch...even though they were quality officials. Glad we now are "patcheless".

Rookies, here in my little corner of the Constitution State, don't get their IAABO patches until the annual business meeting the end of their first year. Both coaches, and fans, key on this.
