I've long contended that, at that level, there are many basket interference calls that are missed (and now goaltending situations like this one) because the officials just can't see the objects from the angles needed to be sure.

Exactly, and I'm now of the opinion they may as well make goaltending due to touching the backboard first a reviewable play. It's just extremely difficult to see, and it's as indisputable as whether a player is behind the 3-point line or not. It's not a judgement call, it's a black-and-white call that's difficult to see. Let them go to the monitor.
