That said, if I were on a varsity game (or any game, for that matter) where one of the coaches did this in another game, I'd certainly want to know about it. If nothing else, the radar would be in full swing.

...we almost always have a school resource officer or a bonafide police officer at our games. He will be escorted out, and possibly even be subject to arrest after I maintain he attempted to assault me with the ball.

And thanks for all the comments. I did advise my assignor and the state of the issue. The guy actually left the gym right after the incident and so was not a problem for the remainder of the game (about 2 min of clock time).
