NCAAM switch
Was at Northwestern/Illini game last night and lead table side has PC call, steps out reports while C goes to endline, old lead goes opposite to C. Has this always been the proper switch?
Seats on the floor, fun to watch the big dogs. |

NCAA-M calling officials have gone opposite for at least the past 4 years. It could've been different at some other point.

Yes...they started doing this a year or two ago along with the calling official going opposite instead of table side.

In NCAA-M mechanics the calling official is always supposed to go opposite the table. If "going long" after the foul, the calling official can report and go back if the throw-in is opposite the table.

So If lead was opposite table and made call, there would be no switch as fed does.

You are correct Sir. And can go back to administer the throw-in and be the new trail.

They have been going opposite table for more than this year. That mechanic has been in place for over 5 years. What is different is that we now go opposition on calls that would make the calling official the C. That was a change last year and takes some getting used to. But the change has been longer than a year or two for normal opposite table switches on fouls.
Peace

I was watching a D1 game last night in person and the calling official was staying at the table a lot during the second half. Not sure if they were keeping someone away from a coach or what, but I noticed it 3-4 times and it may have happened more than that.
