Had team A inbounds the ball from the sideline to player A in front court. Player A recieves the pass lands on a pivit foot in front court and his other foot lands in back court.
I had over/back. I was looking for this in the case book but could not find it. Coach for team A insisted that there is no O/B on an inbounds. I say he established a pivit in front court--over and back--We play on. What say you? |

I say-"take a look at Rulebook 9-9-2(Exception 1) and casebook play 9.9.1SitB(b)".I also say- "Coach be right". It's a legal play if both feet were off the floor when A caught the throw-in.
Were you thinking of the play where A1 catches the ball with one foot already on the floor in the front court, and then the other foot comes down in the back court? That is a violation(casebook play 9.9.1SitA). |

Agree...no violation.
You can catch a throw-in while airborne and land anywhere (except out of bounds, of course!) Player must already be on the floor with front-court status (which can occur with one foot only) before (s)he catches the ball for there to be violation potential. I believe with FIBA rules, it would be a violation, but I'm not 100% sure. |
