Probably.

Many Jews I know are pretty strict followers of the commandment against taking the Lord's name in vain. (In other words - the G-man isn't called God.)

Yes. But it isn't connected to the "vain" thing. We just don't speak or write his name, only representations of it. This is a gross simplification, of course.
