Inadvertent whistle situation
Fed rules - team A inbounds in backcourt. Partner is counting and you assume it is a 10 second count. However, he blows the whistle after five seconds because B1 was closely guarding A1 and he thought you could have a CG count in the backcourt. You discuss it and he agrees he was in error, so you tell the table it was an inadvertent whistle and give the ball back to team A for a throw-in.
Does team A have another 10 seconds to get the ball into frontcourt, or just five seconds? Newbies - what do you think?

I would sure think that a new 10 second count would have to be started. Otherwise they end up penalized by 5 seconds. In theory,I'd think that you could even reset the clock if you had definate knowledge of it. Don't have a book nearby right now.

One could also say you've screwed over the defense by making them defend an additional ten seconds.

Inadvertent whistle? IF you realize it immediately, reach down, pick up the fictitious "trash" on the floor, place it in you pocket, and put the ball back in play as quick as you can. Works every time!
