Court positioning
Wanted to get everybodies opinion on this. As the L which is prefered, to be out wide where you see all the action and perephial vision, or be right in front of a play in the key and constantly moving as an official. Several people had told me they prefer to be out wide, a veteran in our association who is about 40 tells us the opposite. This would be for 2 man. Me personally, I kinda let the play dictate how I am going to position myself.

Stay wide when you can. Close in when necessary to get the proper angle and to avoid being straightlined.
A lot more is missed from being too close than from being too far away.

It depends on the play. Mirror the ball. Mow the grass. Move to improve. Move with a purpose. Go where you need to be to see the play. IOW, don't just stand in one spot, and don't move jsut for the sake of moving. |

What Bob said... Never heard 'Mow the grass' though.
Just from a personal perspective. The majority of the gyms I work have a wall close to the endline so I have gotten used to being near the endline as lead. When I go to a gym with a lot of space, I have to think about backing up to use the space and often do not just because I have trouble breaking out of my 'normal' Lead routine. |

I've found that some games I can see all I need to see from out wide. Other games, I end up looking at backs, unable to see much of anything in the paint from out there. It's good, I think, to have a preferred way to cover plays. But when your preferred method isn't working, you have to go where you need to go to see what you need to see.
