Contact lense- stopping play

1. Don't have my books here with me. I will look this up as soon as I can.

2. I thought there was a thread on this recently but I can't find it.

GV, points & time don't matter. A1 scores. B1 inbounds to B2 as A1 coach is yelling ( can't tell what he is saying). I am new trail, in A's backcourt next to A's bench. B2 is dribbling and in no hurry, not attacking the basket. Makes to about three steps when I can tell A3 has a problem and realize coach A is saying A3's contact came out. I stop play, A6 comes in for A3. B's coach, actually assistant because the HC was no longer with us goes nuts. His beef is "we had the ball". I explain that his team was not attacking the basket and that is why I stopped play. His team of course retains possession blah blah blah sideline throw in for B. Was I correct in stopping play?
