NCAA Technical Foul Question

Watching Loyola Marymount v. Portland. In 2OT, Portland player is called for a blocking foul. Before Loyola player walking to the line bumps the player who just fouled him and then puts a little extra into it. Great job by the officiating crew to catch this and assess a much needed technical foul.

The crew went to the monitor to look at something, and then came out and administered the free throws. The shots for the blocking foul were shot, then the shots for the technical foul were shot. Why was it done this way and does anyone have ahy idea what they might have been looking for at the monitor? I know that usually technical fouls are shot and then it goes POI, which would be the common foul shots. Why is this situation different?

Art. 7. After a technical foul, a player of the offended team may attempt the free throws, and the ball shall be put back in play at the point of interruption.

Exceptions: (Men) After a single flagrant technical foul and single contact dead ball technical foul, play shall resume by awarding the ball to the offended team at a designated spot at the division line on either side of the playing court.

They also probably went to the monitor to make sure they didn't miss anything preceding the dead ball contact.

to follow-up on what AllPurposeGamer posted....because a "dead ball contact technical foul" was called (the penalty includes the offending team shooting 2 FT's AND possession), the FT's need to be shot in the order in which the fouls occurred because after the T FT's, the offended team will get possession....

you cannot shoot the FT's in the order in which they occurred because the penalty is different for a "dead ball contact technical foul" than it is for a "standard" technical foul....
