I would think that ice hockey is the most demanding of all sports to officiate. Skating is one thing. Skating backwards WITH PROFICIENCY is quite another. In most areas ice hockey and basketball seasons are run concurrently, so it would be very difficult to officiate both of them. Soccer occurs here during basketball season. So, in considering another sport, I will likely go with volleyball. I played soccer and it would be easier to pick up the rule set for me, but I cannot do two sports in the same season.

If I could skate, I'd never work another basketball game. Hockey is my favorite sport.

Back in the 60s, I went to many Chicago Blackhawks games. I still have memories of seeing the officials cringe when a slap shot was coming toward their head, especially one shot by someone like Bobby Hull. And this was before the officials (or the players) wore helmets. One of my friends said they couldn't pay him enough to work those games.

BTW - speaking of lacrosse. One of my grandsons, Nick (he's 11), told me the only sport he wants to play is lacrosse. When I asked him why, he replied "Because you can hit the other guys with a stick and it's legal!"

That is soooo twentieth century. Now it's all about Lana Lawless:

I believe that the LPGA will allow her to play in their tournaments.
