Do not take any games around your wife's due date. You are not Phil Mickelson at the US open.

I completely agree. My wife is also pregnant with our first and her due date is around the end of the month. I kept several weeks surrounding the date free. I know that it stinks to have a shortened season but in the end, it is just basketball. It will always be here.

Good luck to you!

Other options aside from not taking games.
1. Have her induced.
2. Risk having to turn back a game at the last minute.

As for whether she goes into labor during your game; the chances of you not being able to finish the game and get to the hospital in time are slim. The real issue is if she goes into labor during the day, perhaps 6 hours before your game.

I missed my son's birth since I was deployed, and I catch a bit of good natured grief for it still (5 years later). I can't imagine the grief I'd have caught if it had been for a basketball game. Fortunately, my daughter was born in April, no conflicts there unless I ever get selected to work a Final Four game.

Just Do The Math ...

Wives of real basketball officials should not be delivering babies during the months of December, January, February, and March. No "fooling around" in March, April, May, or June. Lots of cold showers. It's just that simple.

3. Plan ahead next time for a July birth.

I just mention that because that's what we did for 2010. ;

We were able to "plan" the first one for a spring birth. With the 2nd one, we eventually gave up trying to time it and ended up with an August birth.

Hmmm around here that may not be so good...very pregnant wife in May, June and July....some of the hottest months here. Yeah that could get pretty unhappy around the ol' household.

Control the official population. Have your partner spayed or neutered. ***

4. Schedule a C-Section. This can be done months in advance. You'll only have to scratch one day. I'm sure she'll understand and agree.
