Post Speaking of rule changes

The other thread about what NF rule changes would you like to see got me thinking - and believe me, that's not easy.

A while back, we had a similar thread and I posted I would like to see a change on the penalty for a technical foul to not include possession but to go to POI, like they do in the NBE. My reasoning was that the rule as it stands now penalizes the offense for getting a technical more than it penalizes the defense because the offense loses a possession and the defense doesn't because it didn't have possession to lose. My point was that the penalty should be the same for the same type of foul regardless of whether a team was on offense or defense when the foul was called.

Some of the guys came back with a logical argument as to why that really wasn't the case, meaning the penalty was "equal" or at least "not unfair" and it made sense. I don't remember the argument or who professed it, but I think it may have been Camron.

Anyone want to jump in?

Isn't the rationale for double fouls going to POI the same thinking?

No, double fouls have been committed by both teams. POI prevents one from being punished more than the other.

As for Ts, going POI would potentially minimize the punishment; and at the scholastic level I don't think that would bring about a desired result.

It's More Fun That Way ...

When I get really pissed off at a coach, I wait until his team has the ball to charge the technical foul. Please don't mess around with my rule.

I do not know if Camron advanced that argument, but I readily subscribe to it, and will gladly take credit for it, .
