Buzzer-beater

I love Deadspin.

They make fun of the announcer (who is quite funny). Let's look at the officiating:

"...who's either so excited that words fail her, or she happens to be fluent in dinosaur."

Ha Ha... that's funny!

Lead signaled the attempt and the basket.

Plus, it appears to be 2-man.

Odd to see the Trail (official who administered the throw-in) indicate the 3pt attempt as well as score it at the buzzer from near the end line, but what else could he do? He didn't get much help from his partner, who we see at :05 of the video at the far FT line. There are no players past the division line so what is he doing down there?--Watching the paint dry!

He should have picked a position near the division line to help.

We only see him again at :16 on the clip as he tries to run past the celebration. Very funny.

Fixed it for ya.

It is definitely a 2-man game, but you have to look closely.

Also, the announcer says that the throw-in was tipped -- the clock never started if it, in fact, was.

It was pretty hard to find the second official till the end of the video.

That is not unusual to have a tip and the clock does not start properly off the throw-in.

Peace

Anyone else notice the home team wearing the dark jerseys?

That might not be a big deal based on what kind of game it is. If it is a tournament of some kind, the host team might not be the "home" team.

Peace

A couple of state associations reversed this. The visiting team wears white in those locations. That may have been the case with this contest.

All prep school games in Connecticut are like this.

Actually depending on how the tip happened it could of been missed by the timer due to bodies being in the way. The tip could of just grazed the fingertips in such a way that it looked as if there was no touch of the ball.

Watching the video in slow motion, the tip happened when both the T-G player & RSV player went up for the ball.

From what I am seeing of the video, the clock looked to be started properly.

I am not that perfect, I realize from replaying events in my mind after they happened that either I started the clock too early or a little late.

Gee it is too bad the officials don't have a mechanic to signal when to start the clock...

Welpe, that includes the timer not being able to see the officials chop in time due to other bodies being in the way (which is a rarity), but does happen if coaches or players are big boned.

Looking closely at the video the tipping happened almost right in front of the timer, & if you can click fast enough to do a slow motion you will notice that the timer started the clock when they noticed the ball was tipped.

Rule 5-9-1 used where the timer did not see any signaling by the officials to start the clock, & Rule 5-9-4 is used as there was a legal touch by a player on the court.

At the 5 sec. mark of the video where the announcer says the pass is tipped the clock does start (ball legally touched by player on court), unfortunately the only thing the video does not show is either of the officials chopping in time (Again Rule 5-9-1 does mention the timer can start the clock if official neglects to signal start clock aka "timer's discretion" if by the timer's definite knowledge the ball was legally in play). The tap that happens is very similar to the jump ball to begin the game.
