"That's not fair!"
MS girls tournament last weekend. A girl (call her B1) appears hurt and I blow the whistle to stop play. Team A was in team control when I did it. B1 is replaced (she was OK after about 5 minutes of having an ice pack on her knee) and my partner gets ready to give the ball to A1 to inbound. Coach B yells that we should go to the arrow. I tell him team A was in control when I stopped play so they get the ball back. His retort: "That's not fair!"
I just shook my head and sighed. I guess he thought the other team should lose possession because a girl on his team got hurt. Yeah, that makes sense. BTW - B1 got hurt when she bumped knees with a teammate.

Face it Mark......
You're just mean!
On a lighter note - as I was using our local corporate e-mail, I came across Mark S. Padgett! If there was a coach in my office, I woulda puked on his shoes!

Give that coach some time. He'll be shouting, "Call them the same at both ends" before you know it.

Yes, these teams were from organizations that call themselves "competitive" to differentiate themselves from "pure" rec organizations.
BTW- my middle initial isn't "S". Believe it or not, my middle name isn't Skippyweaselpants.

Why did you stop play when A was in control?

I know there are some reasons to do so. None was mentioned in the OP (nor, to be sure, was a reason for keeping the ball live mentioned).

Team B has set up their offense and is not making an attempt to drive to the hoop or push the ball forward toward the hoop. IOW the guards are just dribbling or holding the ball up top.

Because B1 was on the floor, writhing around holding her knee and yelling "OW OW OW" and this was a young kids game.
In our local kids rec league, at our pre-season coaches meeting we specifically tell the coaches we will stop the game if a player gets hurt even if a kid on the other team is going in for a breakaway layup that would win the game. No one disagrees since the watchword of our league is "the safety of the kids comes first". It's just a game.

You will not find this in any book, but even at the varsity level, I have seen a team B player down with an injury, team A going the other way with the ball, coach A sees the situation and says timeout, and the official stops play but doesn't charge A with the timeout.
Surely no one has a problem with this?
