End of Period Signal

It is customary in our area for the covering official to signal the end of each period with a whistle - assuming others do this as well (bad assumption?), is there an accompanying hand signal that you use? It is one thing if you are waving off a shot attempt that comes after the horn, but what if you just have a player dribbling out the period? Just seems awkward to blow your whistle without any accompanying signal. Thanks for the input.

I blow whistle and extend arm up with an open hand. I only use the wave off signal if the attempted shot came after the horn and will not count.

I dont see the need

Honestly the only scenario where a whislte or signal is needed is on a last second shot. Other than that situation, the horn ends the quarter.

I agree with this completely, but again just following custom in our area. I have also used the open hand, although it seems redundant to use the stop clock signal when the clock is already stopped - but I couldn't come up with anything better!
