Illegal Screen/Intentional Foul
A1 secures rebound who passes to A2 (outlet pass)who takes a few dribbles and passes to A3 in the frontcourt who begins to drive to the basket for an uncontested layup. A4 who is at midcourt contacts B1 after taking a step forward, bringing his arms up, and extending them. A4 was attempting to screen B1 who was defending A2 and did not see the contact coming.
I was the T and called an intentional foul on A4 because of the excessive contact. It was a very strange play because A3 going for an uncontested layup at the time a blew my whistle. This is the only time I have ever called an intentional foul on a screener. |

The foul is not a team control foul by definition, but still the try would not count unless it was in flight at the time of the contact.

Now that you've got the first one behind you it will get easier. All that jersey holding and pants grabbing is fair game.

Coaches response to play
Player has started shooting motion but did not release shot. No basket.
B1 shot 2 for the intentional and B got the ball on the sideline at the point of the foul. Coach didn't even see the play and had no idea what happened. Got a T later in the game. |
