Thanks. I assume on 3 pt attempts. Not sure what you mean by 'pops'.

So, you blow the whistle before every F/C throw-in?

As far as I know, every f/c throwin administered by the L (sideline or endline) they should blow their whistle. Maybe a reminder for the T to put a hand up to chop or just let everyone know play is resuming??
CLH - I have said pop (to blow the whistle) but I'm still trying to figure out "crowns" myself. That wasn't me... Great in-depth description of duties for NCAA-W! Think I'll print this 1, it a keeper, thanks!!

Great advice everybody. Thanks. I will print & study. Anything we need to do regarding the shot clock other than signal for a violation?
I have never done a game with the shot clock. And these answers are great for anyone starting out and newbies to the site. It probably goes without saying that the first rule of officiating is still the same.

[QUOTE Anything we need to do regarding the shot clock other than signal for a violation?
I have never done a game with the shot clock. QUOTE] A lot can be discussed when it comes to the shot clock. One of the big issues is whether you get an experienced shot clock operator. The rules regarding the shot clock are fairly straightforward but sometimes the operator jumps the gun and resets the shot clock when the ball goes out of bounds or on an airball etc.... Try to be aware of the shot clock and pick up any discrepancies. If you notice that the shot clock was reset by mistake and you are aware of the correct time; it will impress the evaluators if you make the correction. At this point in my career, i usually glance at the shot clock at every whistle and double check before the ball is inbounded. Before a throw-in, the officials in our area usually signal the number of seconds left on the shot clock if it is under 10 seconds. Being aware of the shot clock running down near 0 will help you make the proper decision on whether it is a violation or not. Make sure you spend time pre-gaming any shot clock issues; but that's just an obvious statement. Good luck. |

It went pretty well. I made most of the adjustments, but not the two hand reporting. Thought about it when #22 fouled, though.

Closely guarded is 3', holding only, anywhere on the court.
30 second shot clock Coaches don't lose the coaching box after a technical foul Delay of game warnings for all each DOG situation (7 of em) Player control includes an airborne shooter (mens do not) There is team control during a throwin All technical fouls go to the team foul count, and are resumed at the POI except excessive timeout technical (offended team gets the ball) <><><><><><><><><> Count and chop the clock with the same hand on throwins Point direction only on out of bounds, no hand up to stop to clock. Lead has all 3pt attempts on strong side and below the free throw line extended. 2 hand reporting, walk and talk...stay tableside but don't go straight to the coach (just advice there )Tref already gave you some of these, but frankly I have no idea what the he** he's talking about when he says "pops" and "crowns" and things like that I've read from him. lol Anything else? |
