Rebounding?

I was looking at rebounding records and stats of certain players and I keep seeing the stats seperated before 1973 and after 73. why is this? was there a rule change pertaining to rebounding? What significance does '73 have? P.S. the stats were of colegiate players. Here's a link to the records: (which I find informative and interesting)

2009 NCAA Men's Final Four Records - NCAA.org

After you go to the site, click on "the tournament" to view the PDF file and scroll down to rebounding records and you'll notice they are seperated pre and post 1973.

A quick google search tells me that's the big change in 1973, it was the first year they allowed freshman to play varsity ball; a definite effect on career rebounding stats.

I thought that was the year they made 'over-the-back' legal.

rebounding

Learn something new every day...I don't doubt the freshman rule but the only question I have regarding your reply is: why is rebounding the only stat that they have seperated by pre and post '73? I would think that all stats would be effected and seperated....yes? Really weird huh? or maybe I'm just confused. check out the link to the on-line booklet I saw the stats in. after you get to the page the booklet is located, click on the "tournament" its a pdf file, depending on your browser you may need to download it from NCAA.COM ,so you'll need adobe or equal. scroll down to the rebound section..

I found the booklet pretty informative and in depth so I decided to keep it for reference. If your a stat junkie like me I'm sure you'll like it.
