Line of the Day

Heard two great lines yesterday.

In the game before mine, there was a free throw situation. A1 shoots the free throw, there are no violations, and A1 rebounds her own miss.

TWEET! "The shooter cannot rebound her own miss."

Now, I've looked, but I can't find anything to support his claim.

Second one had to do with a five second closely guarded call I made. A1 is dribbling near the top of the lane, closely guarded by B1. A1 slowly advances toward the basket, but never even comes close to getting his head/shoulders past B1. I whistle the violation, and both A coaches yell "But he was advancing the ball!"

I hope the first "line" you mentioned was also from a coach and not from an official.

I hope the coach didn't have a whistle.

They may have been correct twenty years ago. Back in the olden days, there was a twenty-eight foot "hash mark" painted on the court. If during a five second dribbling count, the dribbler advanced the ball past this mark, he got a new five second count. In this situation, he could dribble, closely guarded, for almost ten seconds with having a violation called.

Some older courts still have these fossil "hash marks". Look for them. Collect them. Fossil hunting is an interesting hobby. And I was not talking about Mark T. DeNucci, Sr. when I was talking about fossils. I was thinking about him, but I wasn't talking about him.

Does Padgett do hockey? If he was doing this game, Canada would be the gold medalists right now.
