Seriously, didn't say a word to him. I called the T, coach asked me on the way. "He thought we missed a call and swore about it."

Reported it, administered the FT and watched the player tell his coach he didn't do it. I almost want to go back just to work this team's games again.

Had my first FT disconcertion call in years.

I hit an assistant coach with one of those last season or the year before....seems like it was the season that the NFHS had made it a point of emphasis.

Amazingly, I still look/listen for it - but rarely, if ever, have experienced it since.

Defender along the lane, top spot next to the shooter, yell directly at the shooter just before he shot it. We shot again. Partner hears people in the crowd, "Now they're just making stuff up."

Do you ever have the almost overwhelming urge to burst out laughing when you hear that sort of thing? I do, and hope to goodness my shoulders moving up and down give me away.

Are you guys telling me you DON'T make up half of what you're doing out there? I personally like playing it by ear...by the seat of my pants!

Yep, and I don't bother hiding it. I try not to laugh at coaches, but fans are fair game.

My favorite ever happened last season in a JVG game. Visitors have the ball with a series of shots and offensive rebounds; one dad is screaming 3 seconds behind me. H player hears "3 seconds" and gets a rebound; then throws up a 3/4 court shot with 50 seconds left in the quarter.

LOL....nice!

This weekend, a parent audible to all, yells 'three seconds' towards me and an offensive player who had paused in the block right in front of me while the ball was up top at the perimeter being passed from side to side. Smart kid...he hears it and calmly steps out of the lane like I was the one trying to talk him out of the violation. I love it when that happens. My shoulders were moving up and down on that one too.

Good one!

Here's a funny one from Saturday. Boys JV, home team is constantly pressing. One home defender in particular is really hustling, always seems to be the player that opposes the throw in. Well after about 10 attempts to intercept the throwin pass this energetic player finally succeeds and gets the ball under the visitors basket. He immediately turns and lays the ball up in their basket! He comes down, turns with a victorious smile looking over at his coach and that's when his coach says, "WRONG BASKET!" A little shoulder bouncing was going on all over the gym.

Things are so boring when you handle them professionally.

I nearly had one a couple of weeks ago during the freshman game I worked by myself. As the shooter was going up for his shot, one of the opposing team's players in the space nearest the shooter started squeaking his shoe on the floor. The shot was good and I told the offender to knock it off and if the shooter missed because of it, it would be on him. Of course the offender responded with "Oh I didn't mean to." Of course not.
