"t"

This is my 3rd of the year.

I call a foul on the shot, player missed, so we're shooting 2.

5th foul on 15. I tell the coach, he has a sub, I tell the player and he says" No Sh*t" I think for half a second and give him his "T" it's also indirect on the coach, with 45 seconds left in a tie game.

Shooter is 4-4 from the free throw line to this point. So he is shooting 2, misses the first, then misses the 2nd. Now the coach wants him to shoot the "T" also. He misses #3 and #4. they bring the ball in and turn it over. In the end, they foul the worse shooter on the other team ( the team that got the "T" ) and the worse FT shooter misses the first and makes the 2nd with 2.7 on the clock. they win by 1. Good game, except for the "T"

We're coming to the end of the season, it seems like we just started. I remember my first season, it seemed like it took 6 months to get done, this season is #10 for me and it seems like we started 2 weeks ago.

God, I love this game....I really do.

I played for 6 years in school, 4 years in rec league, I owned a team for a while, I coached for 11 years and now I have refereed for 10 years. Life goes by way too fast. enjoy it while you can. it's done before you know it.

It was a Good game INCLUDING the "T." He earned it and you obliged him. Don't let it take you down and put a mark on your game.

I had a really fun BV game the other night "especially including my T on the V Coach."

Just shows to go you! ;)

I called my first T of the season last night. Crap JV girls game, second half, visitors down by 20. V has the ball in their frontcourt, white tips it. Girl touches it just before it crosses the division line, then controls it and dribbles in the backcourt. I whistle the violation.

The varsity coach is sitting on the bench and says, "That's a tipped ball!" I'm standing right next to him, so I say, "Yes, coach, but team control hadn't ended, and she touched it before and after it went in the backcourt." Then I hustle down to the other end of the court.

Then I hear him -- not quite shouting, but loud enough to reach me at my end of the court -- "Learn the rule!" Whack. He wasn't happy, and I thought for a moment he might step aside for the varsity game that night. Didn't happen.

When the varsity coach went to the locker room in the 4th quarter, the JV coach asked whether she could stand again. Sorry, it doesn't work like that. :)

Disagree. Would you rather be driving home and thinking to yourself, "I should have charged a technical foul in that situation". Now it's too late to drive back to the school and take care of business.

AAU-style 7th/8th grade today, and I'm kicking myself. First game, 2nd half and I call a foul on white. As I'm reporting, a guy sitting right behind the bench says something about calling the first one. I hadn't paid enough attention to their bench to realize he was an AC; if I had I'd have rung him then and there. Players were just as bad. HC was a peach, but my partner had to tell him to control his bench due to players officiating from the bench.

2nd game, I stuck one of his players for appealing to Jesus Christ for a call after I didn't give him one.

Yup. Can't appeal a no-call to a higher authority.

Did he yell something like this: For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)

"Son, Jesus isn't going to give you that call either."

Seriously, didn't say a word to him. I called the T, coach asked me on the way. "He thought we missed a call and swore about it."

Reported it, administered the FT and watched the player tell his coach he didn't do it. I almost want to go back just to work this team's games again.

Had my first FT disconcertion call in years.

I hit an assistant coach with one of those last season or the year before....seems like it was the season that the NFHS had made it a point of emphasis.

Amazingly, I still look/listen for it - but rarely, if ever, have experienced it since.

Defender along the lane, top spot next to the shooter, yell directly at the shooter just before he shot it. We shot again. Partner hears people in the crowd, "Now they're just making stuff up."

Things are so boring when you handle them professionally. :p

I nearly had one a couple of weeks ago during the freshman game I worked by myself. As the shooter was going up for his shot, one of the opposing team's players in the space nearest the shooter started squeaking his shoe on the floor. The shot was good and I told the offender to knock it off and if the shooter missed because of it, it would be on him. Of course the offender responded with "Oh I didn't mean to." Of course not.

Do you ever have the almost overwhelming urge to burst out laughing when you hear that sort of thing? I do, and hope to goodness my shoulders moving up and down give me away. :D

Are you guys telling me you DON'T make up half of what you're doing out there? I personally like playing it by ear...by the seat of my pants! :D
