Camp, camp, and more camp. Rule knowledge, mechanics, call selection (advantage/disadvantage), knowledge of three person, etc. need to be there before you go to camp. If you are going to a women's camp, know the women's mechanics, and the men vice versa. Also, it is very, very rare to jump into college officiating without a solid varsity background and resume. I am not saying it never happens but it is rare. Also, know the camp you are going to attend. Is it a tryout camp or a development/instructional camp? Also, start small, juco, D3, D2 and again build a resume. Know the rules!!! Just my experience, others may have other views.

find a mentor who will speak for you. unfortunately, that may be the most important thing.

I was asked if I wanted to work college ball by an assignor. Then I started going to college camps and got hired a couple of other leagues. I still go to camps to get a shot in higher level leagues.
Peace
