Apology from coach
First time ever.
Doing a run of the mill JV girl’s game last night. I was trail, ball was inbounded in front court at end-line and there was considerable off ball activity along the end-line on my side of the key. Well, B3 grabs A3’s jersey and I call a foul. So, I’m feeling pretty good about myself getting a solid off ball foul. As I start off to the report, A’s coach yells across the court, “You can’t make that call, it’s not your area. The play was right in front of your partner”. This really took me by surprise because we hadn’t heard a peep out of either coach for the first 2 and half quarters and it was a no brainer call. By rule I could have went with an intentional (I didn’t because it was simply a brain fart foul). I told the coach it was clearly a hold and it was my call and then said, “That was enough” with my hand out. I then reported and went back to business. A few plays later, we are shooting two in front of him and I’m table side. He then very sheepishly asked me over and apologized. He said he thought I was calling a foul across the key where my partner was. But as soon as I reported the number and the spot he knew I didn’t. I told him,” That’s alright coach, we are all human”. |
