UT Members,

I apologize for getting this latest discussion started.
I probably should have, and will in the future, send an e-mail for information from an individual on matters
regarding request for information such as was the case
in this event.

I am not an UT Member and could not be, because I do not
umpire much baseball anymore. LL now and then. However,
all the members that I have had responses from and read
post that were issued forth by, have always supplied class
and accurate information. Most have gone out of their way
to supply information that would further educate one in
the umpire field, and even suggested places that other
sources of information could be obtained.

To all the UT Members sorry this exchanged took place and
looking forward to your post and replies in the future
when help is needed.

Thanks,
glen

Glen,

For what are you apologizing? If you are refering to my response, I was only pointing out my problems with one individual of influence with that group. In no way do I hold the same opinion toward the member of UT as many do provide some great insight and other information.

Your statement the you could not be a member because you do not do baseball sort of echoes my bane. There was somewhat of a clique within the original group which considered those of us who work softball as non-entities in the officiating world, that we did not work "real" ball games.

I do not discourage anyone from joining that group, I just thought it would be better to disassociate myself from it to avoid any unpleasantries for myself and other members of the group may incur due to my problems with one person.

Good luck,

Mike

Mike,
I still give 'em a softball jab every now and then. They don't respond as strongly as they used to.

Glen,
No real need for any apology. There are some folks who dislike UT - primarily because they like to think they've got a lot of expertise and don't like being shown they don't. So, every now & then, UT is branded & bashed & all the rest.

You'd think a "senior member" would know this...

... but what is UT?

Universal Time?
Utah?
Umpires in Trouble?

Dakota,
UT is UmpiresTalk - it's a private email group of folks who talk primarily about umpiring baseball.

Talking Which brings up another question!

How exactly does one become a "senior member" anyway?

Develop the skill of typing a lot, but saying little

When you have posted 100 times, you will become "Senior."

Neat answer, but

That is true in some of our cases, but definately not in
most. Not in yours. Normally when you type you
have something to contribute or are asking a valid question,
about a rule or situation you were involved with.

I did not consider your post as attack on anyone. You were
just stating your position. The ones I was referring to, are
on the BB side of the forum. There have been some disagree-
ments on this side, but not any real attacks and insulting
remarks. They attacked people that were just trying to do
one thing, answer a question I had asked. Probably was not
in the best interest that I used the forum for the question,
but I did.

Thanks for your reply.

So...I am guessing that I just came one step closer to "senior?"
