Throw-in violation?

D1 men's game tonight. H10 makes a three point try. V player picks the ball up (At his disposal) and tosses it to the new Trail who is about to start his count. Trail catches the ball and tosses it back to the V player. V player doesn't muff it, but drops it onto the court after he has caught it. He picks it up again and tosses it back to the Trail, who in turn tosses it back to him again and then he completes the throw-in.

I don't know if I just missed something or what, but I was shocked that they didn't call this a violation. I just figured in D1 men's games they would call the violation if the thrower tossed the ball to the official after it was at his disposal, and if not that, the thrower dropping it in bounds after it was at his disposal a second time.

I forget, exactly which rule has the player violated by tossing the ball to the official?

I agree, no violation. But I'm surprised it all took less than 5 seconds.

Dropping it in bounds (And picking it up) after it's at the thrower's disposal isn't a violation either?

I'd have to see it first, but it sure reads like a violation. Two questions:

1. Are you sure it bounced in bounds? The official was right there, and if it was close, he may have given the player the benefit of the doubt.

2. Was there any defensive pressure. I'm not saying it should make a difference (or that it shouldn't), only that it often does.
