Can anyone give a justified reason why only specific numbers are allowed & others are not?

According to the NFHS 2009-2010 Basketball Uniform Information, the legal numbers are: 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, & 55. Also that a team can't have a 0 & a 00.

Why aren't numbers 6,7, 8, & 9 allowed, either a standalone number, a beginning numer, or an ending number?

0 - 5: One handed reporting.

0 & 00: Both used to be allowed, but some computer scorebooks couldn't tell the difference so now only one is allowed.

Most normal people do not have 6, 7, 8, or 9 fingers on one hand.
0 and 00 are the same number per computer talk.

Because most of us only have five digits per hand.
