NCAA - How Far Can You Go Back?

14:17 to go in second half – TWEET, foul on Baylor while Bama was shooting.

The refs went to the table to check if the shooter who was fouled was shooting a three or a two…..or so we (viewers) thought. But, you could clearly hear the officials saying, “Go back to 14;45.”

This is when a Bama shooter shot and made a basket and the refs were checking the shooter's feet to see if he was behind the three point line or not. Both T and C showed it as a three.

My question is – how far back can the NCAA refs go back to make/correct a call? Certain situations?

What the officials normally do is if there is a shot that they would like to review if its a two or a three, they will make a signal to each other after the shot happens which lets them and the table crew know that they would like to review that shot at the next dead ball or media timeout. This way it does not slow the flow of the game at its present time. The same rules apply in the NBA.

Disclaimer: I do not officiating NCAA-M basketball.

That being said, it is my understanding that for this type of error, it may be corrected up until the officials leave the visual confines. Since this is an error in judgement, it is not considered a correctable error.

If, for example, they went to the monitor to determine whether the basket was counted after a goaltending call, then this is a correctable error and must fall within the proper time frame, as this is an error by rule.

The above statement is correct. There are no time restraints for that type of call, and it does NOT fall under the time restraints of correctable error.

Ruling this a two or a three falls under correctable errors. Now, if the officials ruled it a two and the scorer counted it as three, that's correctable until the officials leave the visual confines.

I checked the CCA manual for NCAA women (08-09). Here's what it says

4.9 Courtside Monitor Guidelines
A. Officials MAY use monitor. Officials may use equipment as follows:
2. Scoring:
a. Determine whether a successful try was a two- or three-point goal (this must be done within the correctable error timeframe).
