Actually I think the slang "dude" originated with Baby Boomers and their rock 'n' roll records that they listened to at a higher than required volume.

Jeff Bridges was 46 when he played "The Dude" in "The Big Lebowski," and firmly a Baby Boomer.

I'm on the cusp of Baby Boom and Gen X, not even close to Gen Y.

New Rules 2009-10

Use monitor to determine if flagrant foul, intentional foul, or contact technical foul occured

Maximum of one technical for administrative violations

Headbands my be beige in color

Mouth guards are legal

Contact technical foul replaces intentional technical foul

Secondary defender under basket

Rejump to start game - any two players

Injured free throw shooter - coach picks from four remaining players on floor

3 pt arc

Officials jurisdiction

Horns for disqualified player

Use of arm or leg sleeves

Treat as if ball were being dribbled at the free throw line

C and L look opposite for violations and then back to primary side for rebound coverage

Trail at 28 ft line and be active on free throws

Crew Consistency

Communication with Coaches

Don’t be confrontational

Problem Players

Constant communication with partners when problems arise

Referring Post Play

We must be consistent on both ends of the floor

Referring without the ball and with the ball

Be aware of drop step travel

Traveling

Trail be involved

We must find pivot foot

Players may step through with pivot foot as long as the ball is released before the foot returns to the floor

Be aware of the spin move and drop step

Player equipment

Mouth guard legal

Keep eyes on clocks

OB opposite of lead

Technical fouls

Class A, Class B, or Administrative

Closely guarded counts

Try not to have two officials counting at the same time

Ball in play at closest spot to infraction

Bleeding player vs. blood on jersey

Blood on jersey trainer may check and player stays in game

Bleeding player must leave game and cannot reenter unless his team takes a timeout

Excessively swinging elbows

If not a foul could be a violation

Three second violations

Can help our game - be aware of players occupying lane for extended periods of time

Verticality

Let players block shots

Use 80-20 rule when officiating the block shot

Use proper signals

Hit to the head is approved

Tripping signal is a new signal

Pressing situations

C stay back and help - no hurry to go anywhere

10 second backcourt count - C can help

Substitutions

Who can come in on a foul out

Cannot reenter until clock has ran

Injured player

Can stay in game if his team calls a timeout

Media timeout does not buy him back in game

Two players injured - one timeout can get both back in game

While of course I use the BillyMac Pre-Game sheet, I end with a little sing along to keep my partners relaxed before the big games!

PS - Actually, I remembered Spot, and Dick and Jane, but, this is the only "Puff" I could think of!
