I don't think you can whack him yet. Give him "The Look" and keep in mind that if you see any of his guy looking to obey, you could consider whacking or tossing them both.

I try to stay away from the coach during a timeout. Why should you be close enough to hear that unless it is when you are informing the team of the first horn or trying to get them out of a timeout.

Timeout called. Throw-in in front of Team A's bench. Administering official is to be out away from the bench in line with the other official. If its a 30 second TO that official is not very far away. It seems like it would be easy to hear the coach.

BTW I'm not looking to whack a coach. A fan asked me what I would do. My first reaction was I'd do nothing other than watch for rough play.

I had it happen in one of my games and this is exactly how I handled it.

I'm Trail, in front of coaches bench. He yell's out to his team to start throwing elbows. Without drawing more attention to the idiot, I simply told him, "the first one to do it is gone, with you, coach!" Good thing the kids were a lot smarter than the coach. No elbows thrown...

What would we have if we went this route? Flagrant personal foul against the offending player and a flagrant technical foul against the head coach, giving the offended team 4 shots and the ball?

Yes, and in that order. Of course, the offended player would have to shoot the flagrant FTs (unless injured) and then any player(s) on the offended team could shoot the T. And the inbound spot would be the division line, not the spot of the foul because the technical came last.

Don't forget - the AC would be seat belted.

Why would one adjudge the coach's instructions to be unsporting only if a player acts on them? If the instructions are unsporting, then shouldn't they be penalized immediately?
