I don't know if that's universally used any more. I used to do that all the time, with the reason being it is easier to say and understand one-syllable words when reporting a foul, or giving an OOB call. But I know it has been directed in NCAA-W, for example, to use the actual colors, because a number of team identities are associated with the colors: Purple Raiders, Orange Crush, etc. It has always sounded strange for me, in a gym full of people wearing purple shirts, holding signs cheering for the Purple Raiders, to say, "Blue ball" when it goes OOB.

Check to see how it's done in your area.

I'd like to think so... If you go with an IW, the ball goes back to the team that had control prior to the whistle.

Thanks, that's what my partner was doing. I'll ask in our association.

I'll wait for the answers to roll in.

When did you blow your whistle, before or after RED gathered the ball?

IIRC, before...
