Newbie has his first HS games

Girl's high school rec league -

blew one call...anticipating and calling a kicked ball that never happened

lots of contact - I called my first intentional.

Question on traveling - my rule book is at work. Player jumps to receive pass, twists to make mid air pass, changes mind and falls to floor on hips/side after very minor contact. Partner had traveling. Right or wrong?

4.44.5 SITUATION A: Is it traveling if A1 falls to the floor: (a) while holding the
ball; or (b) after being airborne to catch a pass or control a rebound? RULING:
Yes in both (a) and (b).

Perhaps non-member schools are playing in the Fall.
CoachP may know.

Mick - he said it's a "Rec League", and I guess he's happy to be working that level (as am I when I get the chance).

We have a "V" Rec League going on right now too where our training committee uses it to train our junior and less experienced officials for the upcoming season. About 1/3 to 1/2 the players are actual V players as many of the V players also play football. Good experience and training that's for sure!

Mick, Grunewar corrected my error. It's a rec league for JV and Varsity area girl teams. I guess I was so excited that I did not clarify. I did not mean to to overstate the level of the games.

I think you are fortunate to have that type of league available.
It sounds like a real fine means to hone the edge.

You're very lucky to be on the hardwood during this time of year.
U.P. here, we have the Girls' middle school season underway.

In your Rec league, do you have a chance to work on any three-whistle mechanics?

No. I wish I could though.

It seems like many of the subvarsity games I have attended here in SE Michigan (Class C and D) are 2 whistle.

That's exactly what I like about what our Association is doing. I've work mostly two-whistle during the regular seasons to date. But during this Summer and now Fall V Rec Leagues we are working three-whistle with evaluators.

Been a great learning experience for me. Our feedback is constructive, immediate and we openly discuss what we saw, what they saw......or what we didn't see but should have.

The first year (and last year), there were still some middle schools that did not make the switch.

If they DID make the switch, how do they have Fall games?
