Moving to Florida

I am moving to Tampa, FL in the fall and would like to continue my refereeing career when I get down there. That means attending a couple camps this summer, but I don't know conferences, coordinators or available camps in that area. Can someone help me out? I am interested in men's JUCO, D3 and D2.

I will also continue to do HS, so if someone has any contacts in the Tampa Bay area, I am interested in that as well.

Check out JB Caldwell's camp over in Daytona. He's a D2 supervisor down there (Sunshine State I believe).

As for Tampa specifically, I dont know but JB or Camille would be able to tell you who to call on.

Best bet for HS Assns. would be to contact the FHSAA FHSAA.org: Florida High School Athletic Associationand http://www.becomeanofficial.org/ to find out which local assns. assign for that area and contact them directly. Here are a couple.

http://mypar.net/ for St. Pete/Clearwater

and

http://www.wcoafla.org/ for Tampa

Good luck with the move. ( Don't forget the sunscreen and plywood )

You mean you have to bring your own wood to smack coaches with? We don't have that problem here in Oregon. There's plenty of trees. We just grab any nearby branch.

I've been to Portland. You don't need sunscreen either.

What about this officially-officials group, Officially-Officials, Inc., does anyone know when and where their 2009 camp will be held?

The Caldwell Camp is a good one. I went last year and am attending this year. As Larks said JB is the mens supervisor for the Sunshine State Conf as well as Mid Florida Juco Conference. They have good instructors at this camp as well. Isn't that right Larks JB is having two camps, one starts June 21 and the other is July 10

Officially Officials is primarily a women camp. The Womens Sunshine State Supervisor (Tony McDonald, I believe) runs that camp. But I have not seen that they have announced dates for this year.

There is several good hs associations in the tampa area. Check the FHSAA website (FHSAA.org: Florida High School Athletic Association)
Finally, the suggestion about Disney is correct. There is AAU tourn every weekend and they always need officials.
Good Luck

Also a good suggestion...buy plywood when you arrive, precut to fit your windows and store in garage...Hurricane season just began and we have a long way to go...buy early and miss the quadruple markup the week before the "big wind" hits

Okay, so I've read that JB Caldwell's camp is a good one. Any other Men's D2, D3 or JuCo camps worth attending in central Florida?

I know of the Sunshine State Conference, but what other conferences support central Florida schools?

I decided to take last year off. After listening to stories from my friends all season, I can't wait to get back on the court.
